Abstract
Two different soils, one normal and the other saline alkali, were amen ded with enriched and well decomposed Mentha spent. After one month of pre-incubation, mineral N (NH4 and NO3), biomass C and biomass N were estimated at 10, 30, 45, 60 and 100 days. Mentha spent addition signi ficantly increased the mineral N, biomass N and 'available N' in norma l soil but the effect was less pronounced in salt affected soil. Bioma ss in Mentha spent amended soil was higher than that in unamended soil up to the end of the incubation period.
