Ejs. Sonugabarke et al., EVERYDAY BELIEFS ABOUT SOURCES OF ADVICE FOR THE PARENTS OF DIFFICULTCHILDREN, Child care health and development, 19(4), 1993, pp. 251-260
Parents were asked which sources of advice families with difficult chi
ldren should seek. The results suggested a similar hierarchy of agenci
es for both boys and girls with emotional and behavioural problems. Te
achers, doctors, child psychiatrists and health visitors all received
strong positive ratings, books about children with problems received m
oderate positive ratings, religious leaders received the strongest neg
ative ratings and grandparents and friends received neutral ratings. I
mplications for service provision are discussed.
