Changes in the magnetic properties of nickel phosphorous films fabrica
ted by electroless plating with simultaneous electrolysis were studied
. The saturation magnetization decreased with potentiostatic cathodic
polarization. This was due to an increase in the phosphorous content o
f the films upon the application of electrolysis. No distinct change w
as observed in the coercivity and crystallinity. The nickel phosphorou
s films formed by this process seemed to have less segregated structur
e compared with those formed by electroless plating. Saturation magnet
ization also changed upon the application of a pulsating current. The
simultaneous application of electrolysis is, therefore, very effective
in controlling the magnetic properties of nickel phosphorous films.
