Abstract
This paper proposes a nonmetallic optical fiber cable which contains f iber ribbons inserted into slots. The cable has a high-impact-resistan t sheath which affords protection against shotgun pellets. Th e antiba llistic performance and cable diameter are investigated experimentally and an optimum combination of thicknesses for the protective layer an d outer PE sheath is obtained. Based on the results, nonmetallic 100-f iber cable with a high-strength protective sheath was manufactured and its performance was evaluated. Excellent transmission, mechanical, an d antiballistic characteristics are confirmed.
