Gh. Xiu et al., BATCH ADSORPTION OF AQUEOUS CHLOROFORM ON TO ACTIVATED CARBON - COMPARISON OF AN EXACT SOLUTION AND VARIOUS APPROXIMATE SOLUTIONS, Nippon kagaku kaishi, (6), 1993, pp. 782-787
Experiments were carried out for the adsorption of aqueous chloroform
onto activated carbon in a batch tank. An examination was then made on
the parameter values obtainable from the measured adsorbate bulk conc
entration time data. Various approximate solutions gave values of the
two parameters, adsorption equilibrium constant (Henry type) and surfa
ce diffusivity, while an exact solution failed to give values of these
parameters. The exact solution only showed a relationship between pos
sible values of the equilibrium constant and surface diffusivity : Wit
h the adsorption equilibrium constant value measured from a separate e
xperiment the surface diffusivity value was estimated. Although these
two parameter values are close to those obtained from a slight modific
ation of Do and Mayfield approximation, it is recommended to carry out
a separate experiment to determine the adsorption equilibrium constan
t value.
