One kind of catalyst used for dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styre
ne was investigated by Fe-57 Mossbauer spectroscopy. The results show
that the area ratio S(B)/S(A) of two Mossbauer subspectra of Fe3-vO4 p
roduced after catalytic reaction depends on the amounts of potassium a
dded to the catalysts. A tentative conclusion is that the effect of po
tassium in iron oxide catalysts could be related to the reduction of F
e3+ to Fe2+.
