Zn2(NH4)2P6O18.8H2O corresponds to a new structural arrangement in the
family of the MII2MI2P6O18.nH2O cyclohexaphosphates. This salt is tri
clinic, with Z = 1 and the following unit cell : a = 8.717(7), b = 10.
297(8), c = 7.409(7) angstrom alpha = 104.82(2), beta = 111.03(2), gam
ma = 70.96(2)degrees Layers built by ZnO6 octahedra and P6O18 ring ani
ons spread in planes (011). Between these layers are located the ammon
ium groups and one of the water molecules which is not involved in ass
ociated cation-coordination polyhedra. The geometry of the three-dimen
sional hydrogen-bond network is reported.
