Abstract
The paper describes a new method for calibrating radiometers using hor izontal radiation in a free atmosphere close to the resonance frequenc y of a line of strong absorption. Results of practical tests of this t echnique in balloon experiments involving horizontal sensing of the at mosphere are given.
