A. Gusev, FORMATION OF SUPERSATURATED SOLID-SOLUTIONS BY MECHANICAL ALLOYING INTHE SYSTEM COPPER IRON, Sibirskij himiceskij zurnal, (2), 1993, pp. 135-141
The formation of super saturated solid solution in Cu - Fe system with
positive heat of formation during mechanical alloying has been invest
igated. The solid solutions in wide concentration range were obtained.
Alloys with 0 to 60 at. %. Fe have fcc structure, while alloys with m
ore than 70 at. % Fe have bcc structure. The dependence of obtained so
lid solution concentrations on mechanical alloying conditions is shown
. The possible mechanism of solid solution formation by rapid quenchin
g of liquid phase (the fusion zones) which arises in the particles def
ormed by localized shear during a collision between balls was suggeste
d. The experimental results which confirm the dependence of obtained s
olid solution concentration on ball size were presented.
