P. Patier et al., SEAWEED LIQUID FERTILIZER FROM ASCOPHYLLUM-NODOSUM CONTAINS ELICITORSOF PLANT D-GLYCANASES, Journal of applied phycology, 5(3), 1993, pp. 343-349
The structure of the major component contained in a liquid seaweed ext
ract prepared from Ascophyllum nodosum (Phaeophyta, Fucales) was inves
tigated. The extract was fractionated by gel permeation chromatography
, and the various fractions were analysed by GLC, HPLC, C-13 NMR spect
roscopy and mass spectrometry. All fractions were derivatives of the b
ranched beta-D-(1 --> 3) glucan known as laminaran. They were capable
of eliciting D-glycanase activities (laminaranase, alpha-amylase) in R
ubus fruticosus suspended-cell cultures.
