L. Degiorgi et al., ANTI-MLS(A)-LIKE EFFECT OF CBA J ANTI DBA(2) ANTIBODY IN INVITRO MLRSBETWEEN MLS INCOMPATIBLE COMBINATIONS/, Immunology letters, 36(2), 1993, pp. 171-178
Antisera from CBA/J (H-2k,Mls(a)) mice hyperimmunised with DBA2 (H-2(d
),MlS(a) ) and/or AKR (H-2k,MlS(a)) splenocytes, can block in vitro ML
Rs against Mls(a) determinants. These two anti-sera are furthermore sp
ecifically cytotoxic against targets expressing H-2 components but not
against MlS(a)-bearing targets. In these experimental models the anti
-MlS(a)-like effects of CBA/J anti-DBA2 and CBA/J anti AKR antibodies
seem to be associated with an autoreactive immune response in CBA/J mi
ce elicited by DBA2 and AKR splenocytes, respectively. In this report
we propose that anti-Mls(a) antibodies can also be generated in a situ
ation in which MlS(a) is presented as 'altered self' in conjunction wi
th allo-determinants.
