F. Salvador et al., CYTOMEGALOVIRUS RETINITIS IN PEDIATRIC ACQUIRED-IMMUNODEFICIENCY-SYNDROME - REPORT OF 2 CASES, Journal of pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus, 30(3), 1993, pp. 159-162
Two cases of cytomegalovirus retinitis in pediatric acquired immunodef
iciency syndrome (AIDS) are described. The first case was a 7-month-ol
d infant who received an HIV-infected blood transfusion in 1983. The i
nfant was treated with specific anti-cytomegalovirus immunoglobulin. T
he second case was an 8-year-old hemophiliac child who received HIV-in
fected factor VIII concentrates. Intravenous ganciclovir therapy resul
ted in marked improvement of ocular lesions. This is, to our best know
ledge, the first report of pediatric AIDS-induced retinopathy resultin
g from postnatal intravenous causes.
