I. Fontao et al., IDENTIFICATION OF ELASTOMERS IN VULCANIZED COMPOUNDS BY C-13-NMR SPECTROSCOPY, Kautschuk und Gummi, Kunststoffe, 46(6), 1993, pp. 431-435
Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy is a technique useful for stru
cture elucidation of organic compounds. C-13-NMR appears to be extraor
dinarily advantageous for structure identification of cured and filled
elastomeric compounds. Once the carbon resonance assignments are made
in the C-13-spectrum of a polymer, compositional calibration standard
s are not necessary; the method does not require the removal of the fi
ller from the compound. The purpose of this paper is to discuss how wi
th a conventional solution NMR is possible to obtain spectral resoluti
on appropriate for the analysis of solid samples of some crosslinked e
lastomers (CR, EPDM, BIIR, NBR).
