An investigation has been made of the distribution of model diamylsulp
hoxide and two specimens of petroleum sulphoxides (PSOs) with a differ
ent average molecular weight between n-octane and a number of polar so
lvents, and also their mixtures with each other and water. On the basi
s of the results obtained, extraction procedures have been developed f
or the fractionation of sulphoxides with the simultaneous removal of i
mpurities not containing sulphoxide groups in their molecules. The con
tent of sulphoxides in the isolated PSO fractions increases with their
decreasing molecular weight and, depending on the MW, amounts to 78-9
8.5%, whereas in the initial specimens it amounts to 67 and 55-4%.
