Ac. Butler, THE IMPACT OF THE 1-YEAR-RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT ON STUDENTS PREFERRINGPART-TIME STUDY, Journal of social work education, 29(2), 1993, pp. 212-223
This article examines the effect of a 1-year-residency requirement on
master of social work students' psychophysical health, general well-be
ing, perceived workload, and grade point average. The study contribute
s to the existing research in two ways. First, the sample size was suf
ficiently large to detect important differences between part-time and
full-time students. Second, the study addressed the previously neglect
ed issue of whether students who Prefer to attend school on a part-tim
e basts are negatively affected by a 1-year-residency policy. The stud
y found no difference in outcome between part-time and full-time stude
nts who were enrolled in first-year courses. But when part-time studen
ts were obliged to complete their second-year courses on a full-time b
asis, their academic performance suffered compared with that of 2-year
students.
