Abstract
Cenospheres present in coal-ash are hollow solids, light in nature. Du ring the sluicing of the ash-discharge of thermal power plant these ce nospheres float on the surface, adding significantly to the load of su spended solids in the ash-pond effluents. The proportion of the cenosp heres in coal-ash discharge of thermal power plant at Korba (MP) has b een determined, and found to be several times higher than those report ed abroad. Concentrations of a large number of toxic metals (Cu, Co, N i, Pb, Mn, Zn, Cd, Mo, V, Cr, Sn, Be) have been determined in the ceno sphere samples. The environmental aspects of the presence of cenospher es have been discussed.
