Abstract
We consider a long-wavelength theory for fermions propagating on a two -dimensional lattice in the presence of a background flux distribution and discuss the symmetries of the solutions. These notions are then g eneralized to three spatial dimensions, where the background flux is d ue to effective magnetic monopole fields. The nature of the long-wavel ength solutions is again discussed.
