The authors report a case of posterior hyperplastic primary vitreous w
hich was associated by chance with a central serous choroidoretinopath
y. Examination of the left eye revealed a dense white vitreous condens
ation attached to the optic disc associated with retinal folds. Fluore
scein Angiography showed a typical central serous choroidoretinopathy.
No treatment was required as retinal complications due to the posteri
or hyperplastic primary vitreous were not found; central serous choroi
doretinopathy had a satisfactory course. Posterior hyperplastic primar
y vitreous is a rare disease, different from Reese's anterior form and
may mimic congenital abnormalities of the optic disc. Clinical appear
ance, clinical course and treatment are discussed.
