S. Bekoe et al., PNEUMONECTOMY FOR UNREMITTING HEMOPTYSIS IN UNILATERAL ABSENCE OF PULMONARY-ARTERY, The Annals of thoracic surgery, 55(6), 1993, pp. 1553-1554
Unilateral absence of pulmonary artery is a rare malformation that can
present as an isolated lesion or may be associated with other congeni
tal heart defects. Clinical presentation is subtle when the lesion occ
urs alone, and may include hemoptysis, which results from rupture of a
bundant bronchial submucosal vessels perfused by enlarged systemic col
laterals that supply the affected lung. Pneumonectomy is recommended a
s definitive treatment in such an adult patient.
