Polypyrroles doped with electroactive materials such as ferrocenemonos
ulfonate, ferrocenedisulfonate, and poly(vinylferrocenesulfonate) were
PrePared and their electrochemical properties were studied. Polypyrro
le doped with poly(vinylferrocenesulfonate) was examined for the recha
rgeable battery electrode material. A fairly high energy density (384
Wh/Kg) was obtained for the lithium/polypyrrole-poly(vinylferrocenesul
fonate) battery. A facile release of ferrocenemonosulfonate from polyp
yrrole was observed during redox cycles whereas poly(vinylferrocenesul
fonate) in the polypyrrole matrix was retained for more than hundreds
of cycles. Combined with the smooth and uniform film forming property,
polypyrrole doped with poly(vinylferrocenesulfonate) is a promising e
lectrode material for the rechargeable battery.
