Abstract
Polymerization of 3-methylthiophene on bare and chemically modified IT O has been studied by STM. Deposition begins by formation of oligomeri c islets, and later polymer bundles and macroscopic centres appear. Mo dification serves to increase the density of polymeric features on the surface, which leads to a more controlled growth.
