Smooth, coherent and well adherent polythiophene coatings on iron coul
d be galvanostatically electrodeposited from 0.1 M bisthiophene in the
presence of 0.1 M KNO3 or oxalic add in partially aqueous systems. A
cosolvent like acetonitrile or dimethylformamide was necessary due to
the limited solubility of the monomer. Thicknesses of 2 pm are typical
for these coatings, which are of interest as corrosion inhibiting pol
ymer layers.
