The electrochemical behaviour of electropolymerized 2-(3-thienyl)ethyl
acrylate (PAcrT) has been investigated, and compared to the behaviour
of electropolymerized thiophene and 3-n-decylthiophene (PDT). The eff
ect of electron beam irradiation on the electrochemical properties of
these three polymers has been studied. It has been found that for PAcr
T the oxidation wave shifts to higher potentials upon electron beam ir
radiation. For PDT a similar but smaller change occurs. We suggest tha
t the shift of the oxidation wave of PAcrT is caused by cross-links, f
ormed between the acrylate substituents, which fixate the main chain p
arts in twisted states and reduce the conjugation length.
