Different methods were tested to synthesize thermoplastic polyesterimi
des on the basis of 2,2-bis-[4-(3,4-dicarboxyphenoxy)phenyl]propane di
anhydride and aromatic diamines. These were two-stage methods involvin
g the preparation of polyamidoacid by interfacial polycondensation or
in solution and subsequent thermal solid-phase imidization, and one-st
age synthetic procedures conducted in high-boiling organic solvents. F
usible samples of the polymers with good rheological characteristics w
ere obtained in a mixed solution of N-methylpyrrolidone and toluene, w
here MM of the polymers was regulated by adding a 3 - 5 mol % excess o
f the dianhydride component.
