Fresh finfish and shellfish of marine and brackish water origin, colle
cted from the markets situated in and around Cochin, were examined for
the incidence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. This bacterium was isolated
from 51.26% of finfish and 78.57% of shellfish. All the oyster sample
s were found to be positive for the presence of V. parahaemolyticus.
