Abstract
The behaviour of zinc in the blast furnace and ways of mitigating its harmful effects are discussed in the light of practical experience and following a recent article. It is concluded that, until a cost effect ive method of removing zinc from raw materials containing it is develo ped, such materials should be kept out of the furnace. Conditions for minimising wall and shell damage caused by zinc are summarised.
