An investigation has been made of the structure and mechanical propert
ies of general purpose steels as a function of the schedules for elect
ric heat treatment under industrial conditions. Results indicate that
high speed electronormalising of general purpose carbon and low alloy
steels is an effective means of improving the strength properties of r
olled stock with a simultaneous increase in impact strength and a redu
ction in the ductile-brittle transition point in the subzero temperatu
re range.
