Sj. Mckelvie, CONFIDENCE AND ACCURACY IN FACIAL MEMORY - FURTHER EVIDENCE FOR THE OPTIMALITY HYPOTHESIS, Perceptual and motor skills, 76(3), 1993, pp. 1257-1258
In two experiments in which task difficulty was manipulated via invers
ion or the presence of spectacles, 41 subjects provided recognition an
d confidence judgments for faces seen earlier. Subjects were more conf
ident when correct than when incorrect, and the difference was greater
when the task was easier. These results confirm the optimality hypoth
esis.
