Abstract
In this article the author argues that the traditional research paradi gm used in industrial-organizational psychology is not useful in under standing the deeper dynamics of organizations, especially those phenom ena that we label as ''cultural. '' The use of data obtained during cl inical and consulting work should be legitimated as valid research dat a. The clinical model is spelled out and illustrated in the study of o rganizational culture,
