The boiling points of non-polar liquids have been found to correlate w
ell with R(m)V-1/3 where R(m) is the molar refractivity and V the mola
r volume. A method for estimating the boiling points of alkanes and pe
rfluoroalkanes (F-alkanes), using estimated values of R(m) and V, has
been developed. The correlation coefficient was 0.996 for a data set c
onsisting of 19 alkanes and 18 F-alkanes.
