Ei. Vapirev et Av. Hristova, RAPID CORRELATION ASSESSMENT OF SR IN FALLOUT BY GAMMA-SPECTROSCOPY, Journal of environmental radioactivity, 20(1), 1993, pp. 23-34
Air filters and fallout samples from the Chernobyl accident have been
investigated by beta-analysis for the determination of the Cs-137/Sr-9
0 ratio and the absolute Sr-90 activity. Gamma-spectroscopic data from
May 1986 have been used for the calculation of the Ba-140/Cs-137 rati
o and the absolute Ba-140 activity. The observed ratio in the samples
is approximately the same as in the core of the damaged reactor It is
concluded that gamma-spectroscopic measurements of Ba-140 and the reac
tor core ratio of Ba-140/Sr-90 can be used for the estimation of the s
trontium activity in the fallout immediately after an accident. The Cs
-137/Sr-90 ratio can be used for the estimation of the strontium fallo
ut in the late post-accident period.
