The present work reports on the promoting effect of alkali metals (Na,
K, Rb) on new Co-Cu based catalysts prepared as a mixture of formates
in homogeneous solution before drying and reduction. Sodium appears a
s the most efficient promoter for C1-C5 alcohols formation, the methan
ol fraction being particularly important (85%). However, the productiv
ity of these catalysts remains rather low, although their thermal stab
ility proved to be quite high (stable up to 350-degrees-C).
