Wa. Schmidt et Hj. Metz, SPECIAL SILVER-HALIDE MICRO-CRYSTALS WITH SEVERAL TWIN LAYERS AND THEIR PHOTOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS, Journal of Information Recording Materials, 20(4), 1993, pp. 375-381
A photographic silver bromide emulsion is presented containing twinned
grains completely uniform in grain habit and size. The special crysta
l type occurring in this emulsion is described and explained. [AgX(n)]
(n-1)- complex ions are not involved in the formation of the twinned c
rystals. The influence of twin planes on photographic properties is st
udied by comparing the twinned grain emulsion with an emulsion contain
ing regular cubic grains. It is found that crystal lattice defects int
roduced by twin planes enhance the efficiency of latent image formatio
n.
