The resolving powers F (F = number of discernible lines per mm) of sil
verless photographic images consisting of different iron, cobalt, nick
el or copper complexes with some nitrogen/sulphur-containing ligands w
ere measured. The resolvometric curves F = f (D) of the different silv
erless images of the above-mentioned type (where D is the optical dens
ity of neutral gray light filters used for exposure variation) and the
resolution R as the maximum on this curve where determined. It has be
en shown that the resolving power of the studied silverless images is
lower in comparison with the initial silver images, excepting Cu(II)ch
elates which have comparable values. This phenomenon could be explaine
d by the different water solubilities of the chelate complexes forming
the silverless images and the bigger size of the silverless image par
ticles.
