We have observed IC 5283, a neighbor of the well-known Seyfert galaxy
NGC 7469, using the 2.6-m tel at Byurakan ObservatorY with interferenc
e filters in the continuum and at Halpha and [N II]lambda 6584. We con
ducted a comparative morphological study of the galaxy, and used the [
N II]Halpha ratio to calculate the nitrogen abundance distribution emp
irically. We found that the galaxy has two spiral arms, with differing
rates of star formation; that the radial distribution of hydrogen abu
ndance and its mean value are typical of late-type spirals; and that w
e could detect no azimuthal variation in the nitrogen abundance or var
iation along a spiral arm.
