Abstract
Diphenylnitrilimine (2) adds regioselectively to 3-acylaminocoumarins (3a, b) and methyl alpha-acylamino-o-methoxycinnamate (4) to yield exc lusively the cycloadducts (5a, b) and (8) respectively. Compounds 5 we re converted into 8 by their treatment with KOH and dimethyl sulfate i n methanol. The regiochemistry of the cycloadducts have been confirmed by their conversion to the known 1,3-diphenylchromeno[3,4-c]pyrazol-4 -(3H)-one and methyl iphenyl-4-(o-methoxyphenyl)-pyrazole-5-carboxylat e (6) and (7) respectively.
