Abstract
Complex 1 exists in the high-spin form regardless of whether Ni is sur rounded by the bidentate ligands in a planar or tetrahedral fashion. T hus, 1 is the second planar, high-spin Ni(II) complex and the first fo r which both the planar and the tetrahedral forms could be characteriz ed. The tetrahedral isomer predominates in solution; its Ni-O bonds ar e shorter and its Ni-N bonds are longer than those of the planar isome r.
