A. Ravelli et al., SEVERE RETINOPATHY IN SYSTEMIC LUPUS-ERYTHEMATOSUS ASSOCIATED WITH IGG ANTICARDIOLIPIN ANTIBODIES, Acta paediatrica, 82(6-7), 1993, pp. 624-626
A six-year-old boy with systemic lupus erythematosus developed insidio
usly a monolateral serous retinal detachment leading to severe visual
loss. Serial determinations of anticardiolipin antibodies showed the p
resence of IgG anticardiolipin antibodies only at the time of ocular i
nvolvement. This case underlines the need for regular ophthalmologic e
valuation in children with active systemic lupus erythematosus and sup
ports the. previous hypothesis of a relationship between antiphospholi
pid antibodies and retinal involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus
.
