Abstract
Colloidal-gamma-FeOOH particles, synthesized by air oxidation of FeSO4 solutions in the presence of different amounts of citrate and tartrat e ions, have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X -ray diffraction, elemental analysis, etc. These ions, added to the st arting solutions, interfered with the formation and growth of gamma-Fe OOH crystals. The adsorption isotherms have been determined of citrate and tartrate ions on gamma-FeOOH particles from solutions at various pH values. The crystal growth at a low additive concentration was hind ered mainly by their adsorption.
