The means of production and fields of application of energy nonequilib
rium hydrogen states in processes of energy conversion are briefly rev
iewed. The effect of metal hydride hydrogen activation is considered,
which can be applied to reactions of heterogeneous catalysis, ignition
of hydrogen-oxygen mixtures, devices using hydrogen as a working medi
um with energy supplied from an external source, as well as to electro
physical units. The probability of the thermodynamically nonequilibriu
m concentration of excited particles near the surface of hydride-formi
ng materials is quantitatively estimated.
