Condensation of 5-formyl-6-methoxy-2,3-diphenylindole with hippuric ac
id gives the tide compound (1) which subsequently is reacted with hydr
azine hydrate, hydroxylamine hydrochloride, different amines, o-phenyl
ene-diamine, malononitrile, ethyl cyanoacetate, sodium hydroxide, and
sodium methoxide yielding thus compounds 2-18 of expected biological a
ctivities. Their structural assignments are based on elemental analyse
s and spectral data.
