The reaction of CH3OO radicals with sulfur dioxide was studied at 350-
degrees-C at pressures of 100-150 mm Hg. The methyl peroxide radicals
were produced in the thermal decomposition of azomethane (5-10%) in th
e presence of oxygen (0.5-7%) in helium; the sulfur dioxide concentrat
ion was 5-20%. The kinetics of the process was studied by the chromato
graphic analysis of the major products - methyl alcohol and ethane. Th
e rate constant of the reaction of methyl peroxide radicals with sulfu
r dioxide was determined by kinetic modeling of the process (k5 = 3.2.
