Abstract
Infrared studies have been conducted in situ for benzene oxidation on Pt/Al2O3. It has been shown that during the course of the reaction anh ydride-like carbonyl and caroboxylate complexes form on the catalyst s urface. These complexes form on the metal and then diffuse into the ca rrier. Slow relaxations in the reaction rates are associated with the formation and oxidation of these complexes. A scheme has been put forw ard for benzene oxidation.
