F. Mattioli et al., SERIAL STUDY OF NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL PERFORMANCE AND GADOLINIUM-ENHANCED MRI IN MS, Acta neurologica Scandinavica, 87(6), 1993, pp. 465-468
Many multiple sclerosis patients show cognitive decline, although no d
efinite correlation between brain demyelination at MRI and neuropsycho
logical performance has been found so far. We submitted a group of nin
e relapsing-remitting, mildly disabled patients to both serial gadolin
ium-DTPA enhanced MRI and neuropsychological evaluation in a follow up
period of three months. Despite the great variability in acute lesion
s' load, no overall decline in test, performance was found. Furthermor
e, in selected cases whose test scores declined at follow up, no conco
rdance with the new lesion load was found.
