Silicate glasses of different composition were implanted with silver a
nd silver + nitrogen ions. Silver depth concentration profiles were me
asured by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) and were found
to depend on the glass substrate. The formation of silver-colloidal pa
rticles was detected by optical absorption: their aggregation behaviou
r was different depending on the different substrates. The effect of t
he radiation damage was investigated in the soda-lime glass by implant
ing argon before implanting silver.
