F. Repplinger et al., DOUBLE SCATTERING IN ELASTIC RECOIL SPECTRA, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 80-1, 1993, pp. 24-27
We have modelized the double collision phenomenon in terms of successi
ve Rutherford interactions. Particles resulting from a first collision
inside the target are considered as a second incoming beam available
for collisions with target atoms. This calculation has been applied to
try to explain the background of elastic recoil spectra. Although the
shape of the background is about right, its magnitude is an order of
magnitude too low compared to the observed background. Plural and mult
iple scattering might explain the discrepancies observed between exper
imental results and this simulation.
