Xh. Liu et al., EFFECT OF MG SEGREGATION AT GRAIN-BOUNDARIES ON CORROSION BEHAVIOR OFINTERMETALLIC COMPOUND NI3AL(B), Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 80-1, 1993, pp. 221-224
120 keV Mg ions to a dose of 1 X 10(16) ions/cm2 were implanted into t
he intermetallic compound Ni3Al(0.1B). The corrosion behavior was char
acterized by multisweep cyclic voltammetry and optical microscopy. The
results showed that Mg ion implantation is very effective to improve
the corrosion resistance of the specimen in a solution of 1N H2SO4. Ex
perimental measurements and computer simulation were carried out for s
tudy of segregation behavior of Mg atoms at the grain boundaries. It l
eads to an improved understanding of the mechanism of beneficial effec
t of Mg ion implantation on corrosion behavior.
