P. Ziemann et al., AMORPHIZATION OF METALLIC ALLOYS BY ION-BOMBARDMENT, Nuclear instruments & methods in physics research. Section B, Beam interactions with materials and atoms, 80-1, 1993, pp. 370-378
Ion-induced amorphization processes are discussed and classified by di
stinguishing spike and nonspike regimes. Recent examples are given to
illustrate how these two regimes can experimentally be separated. Afte
r delineating the idea of obtaining the amorphous phase by approaching
an instability of the crystalline structure, consequences are discuss
ed on possible ion beam experiments. Selected results based on ion irr
adiation of crystalline compounds, ion beam mixing and ion implantatio
n are used to describe the recent development.
