Abstract
Drugs that inhibit HIV replication have been shown to have clinical ut ility in patients with HIV infection. However, the immunological impro vement induced by available anti-HIV therapies in patients with AIDS i s incomplete and transient. Explanations for this may include immunolo gical barriers to complete reconstitution, low therapeutic indices of the available drugs, and the development of viral resistance. An under standing of these processes may provide important leads for the develo pment of improved therapy for AIDS.
