The mobility of a copolymer of vinylpyrrolidone and vinyl chloroformat
e either chemically grafted or physically adsorbed on silica has been
studied by the spin-labelling method and electron paramagnetic resonan
ce spectroscopy. The signals give information about the local microsco
pic mobility of the segment to which the label is attached. The influe
nce of the type of bonding of the chains, the coverage achieved, the p
resence of the ligand p-aminobenzamidine (pABA), and the nature of the
solvent put into contact are investigated. All these factors have a m
arked effect on the mobility of the chains.
